2010 Chicago White Sox: When Is It "Too Late" To Say "Too Early"?

When is the "too early" excuse "too late" to use? Every season we ask that question of our baseball teams in Chicago and yet every season there is never a correct answer. In fact the only true way to describe "too early" is until you are team is out of the playoff race.

Unfortunately for one side of town, it's looking like "too early" might come way too soon in this 2010 baseball season.

MLB Does Not Have A Race Issue.....Get Over It!

On a day where Major League Baseball celebrates one of its truly inspirational heroes in Jackie Robinson, the topic of diversity in the sport has once again raised it's ugly head. I was reading a column on MLB.com about how Minnesota Twins second baseman Orlando Hudson raises the issue of the lack of African Americans in the sport of baseball.

Hudson asked about the significance of Jackie Robinson in MLB was quoted as saying:

"The game still has a lot of progress to make," Hudson said on Wednesday. "I'm pretty sure [Robinson] turned over in his grave to see the lack of African-Americans playing ball. ... I'm pretty sure [Thursday] will be a glorious day, but Baseball, I think we're trying to do a little more."

When will baseball and baseball players (especially African American players) wake up!!??

I Wanna Believe, But I Can't....The Blackhawks Won't Win The Stanley Cup

The most exciting postseason in professional sports are upon us with the Stanley Cup Playoffs getting underway this week. The Chicago Blackhawks finished the season setting franchise records in points (112 points) and wins (52) seeding themselves as the second best team in the Western Conference behind the San Jose Sharks.

All in all a magnificent season as the Blackhawks sent seven players to the Winter Olympics (5 winning medals), and setting cable television records for their games on Comcast Sportsnet. The buzz in the new and improved "Madhouse On Madison" could not be higher as the playoffs are set to begin on Friday.

Then why do not I believe the Hawks can win the Stanley Cup?

Stop Hating The New York Yankees: Owners Included...

The Evil Empire has a new man on its radar to seek out and destroy.

Of all the criticisms in baseball the one that gets old the fastest is whining about how much money the New York Yankees spend on their team. Once again the pinstripes lead major league baseball this year with a $206.3 million dollar payroll which is 2% higher than what they spent last season eventually winning the World Series for the first time since 2000.

It's almost human nature to hate the team that continues to win all the time and have the best teams because of our envious nature when it comes to sports.

Fans are allowed to think that way, but owners of baseball teams cannot.

Cubs Fans Need To Show Carlos Zambrano More Patience....

Sports are so entertaining on so many levels and yesterday was such a great example of why. On Monday in Chicago you had your choice of watching two baseball games, a national championship basketball game, and a press conference covered by the worldwide media. Watching the event is one thing, reacting to it is another. To me the reaction portion of sports is so much more entertaining than the actual event itself because of the emotional attachment fans have to it. A great game and everyone's thinking great things, as is a bad game and the season is over.

So here is my attempt to calm Chicago Cub fans down after starting the season off 0-1.

Why are they so down on Carlos Zambrano?

Spring Training Means Nothing. Bring On Baseball!!

I'm about to say something that many baseball fans may agree with and some may think is just a fan siding with the obvious.

Thank god spring training is over.

Seriously!! Between all the drama of White Sox camp and the dullness of Cubs camp, if I had two more weeks (let alone two more days) of what I term "fake baseball" I'd probably start watching the NBA more I'd be so bored.

So far this spring we've had all kinds of stories coming out of Arizona ranging from:

1. Ozzie vs. Kenny
2. Lou's motivation for this season in his final year of his contract
3. Carlos Zambrano telling fans not once but twice he'll be a changed man in 2010.
4. Bobby Jenks is fat. Bobby Jenks is worn down. Bobby Jenks is sober!
5. Kevin Millar should make the squad cause he's great with the media.
6. Ricketts family wanting a Toyota sign in left center.
7. Twitter-Gate....etc etc etc...

What you didn't notice (or at least the grand spectacle of the media didn't) is that there is actually baseball being played during these past six weeks of winter. Even with all the side stories, how much of spring training can you actually believe to be a indication of what's to come in a 162 game baseball season?

Not much.

Source: Ozzie Guillen in 2011..."Slim To None"

As I've stated before on The Rock Report in my Chicago White Sox preview, I think that if the south siders do not make the postseason this fall then that should be the nail in the coffin of Ozzie Guillen. Apparently my feelings are shared by some in the organization based on the news I've received today.

According to an inside source, the organization has indeed made it known to manager Ozzie Guillen that he is indeed on his last legs with the ball club. Quoting the source directly, Ozzie has been told if the White Sox do not make the playoffs that his chances of returning as White Sox manager are "slim to none."
